Subject 1. Our "Rare Earth" and its Climate History
The six Lessons on this subject could be regarded as the macro side of climate science. We learn how the Earth was formed, the concept of its energy budget and detailed descriptions of the 21 powerful climate drivers that (surprising to many people) exist, not counting greenhouse gasses.
Lesson 3. Topics:
Earth's Climate Drivers, Drivers from Outer Space, The Sun, The Outer & Inner Parts of the Sun, Sunspots, Solar Wind, Sunspot Cycles, Cosmic Rays History & Background, What is Cosmic Radiation?, Cosmic Rays as Triggers for Lightning, Comets & Asteroids, What is the Difference Between Asteroids and Comets?, Comets and Impact on life.
Lesson Summary
There is some fascinating and important stuff here, but the standout for me is the revelation (to me) that cosmic rays are radioactive and are a trigger for lightning. They have also been proven by a CERN experiment to be potent seeders of clouds which can cool the climate when sunspots are low and the Earth is unprotected from the cosmic rays.
